Monia Hejaiej Reads from Behind Closed Doors

Tunisian author Monia Hejaiej, who currently teaches at UC Berkeley, will read from her book Behind Closed Doors. In this book, tales told by three Beldi women in Tunis offer a kaleidoscopic view of women in the rich life of this historic North African city. Before the reading, Ms. Hejaiej will discuss the importance of storytelling in Muslim women's lives, and the way this art of narration effects the social discourse. Following the reading, Ms. Hejaiej will perform traditional songs. For further details about the reading and the author, please see Page 5, Public Programs.
