Following

Steeped in British naturalism and American film noir, Following is a wickedly clever story of how a young man's innocent obsession with following people leads him into a dark underworld. Bill is an unlikely hero, a marginalized but intriguing Everyman. Unemployed, he claims to be a writer and lately has taken to following strangers at random on the street. One day, Cobb, a man Bill has been following, catches him in the act. In Cobb Bill finds a strange companionship-part mentor, part confessor, and part evil twin. Following is relayed in a series of nonlinear flashbacks that slowly piece together into a darkly thrilling narrative. Shown with The Rockinghorse Winner (Michael Almereyda, U.S., 1997, 23 mins), a Pixelvision version of the D.H. Lawrence short story using the Fisher Price toy video camera.
