Long Story Short
Artists in Person
In tonight's trailblazing videos, women must start from scratch to follow the passions that beckon to them. Three local Latina filmmakers search for their place in the film world in a place to begin (mónica enríquez, 2005, 12 mins, In English and Spanish with English subtitles, Color/B&W, Beta SP). Through a series of quirky vignettes, Pears (Heidi Saman, 2005, 8 mins, In Arabic with English subtitles and English) explores the labyrinth of miscommunication within couples. A woman in A Good Scratch Is Hard to Find (Lisa Fotedar Miller, 2004, 1 min) struggles to satisfy herself in more ways than one. In the amusing Getting Married (Rani K. Sandhu, Canada, 2005, 19 mins, Beta SP), a young Indo-Canadian provides a simple solution to the problem of personal expression. In Long Story Short (2006, 12 mins), Christine Choy profiles actress Jodi Long and her parents' groundbreaking journey in Asian American show business. While the world of hip-hop may appear full of glamour and glitz, Breakin' In: The making of a hip hop dancer (Elizabeth St. Phillip, Canada, 2005, 57 mins, Beta SP, From National Film Board of Canada) takes us behind the scenes in the daily life of a dancer with its grueling auditions and the reality of paying bills.
