Neighborhood Watch
Graeme Whifler in Person
Voted Most Effectively Offensive at the Boston Underground Film Festival!
Two thumbs down (the throat) for Graeme Whifler's feature directorial debut. Whifler has already achieved great grosses from his earlier outings as screamwriter for Dr. Giggles and Sonny Boy; Neighborhood Watch ramps up the gag factor. Rather than gloating on torn limbs or bloodlust, Whifler simply slathers on a grimy layer of unsettling pathology. Here's what happens: Bob and Wendi Peterson (Jack Huston and Pell James), a perfect young couple, move into an equally perfect suburban home on Wormwood Drive. Next door lives Adrian Trumbull (Nick Searcy), a creepy recluse who listens to ultra-con radio and hoards specimen jars of disgusting origin in his rancid digs. Adrian welcomes his new neighbors with a handsome bouquet and chocolates. From there on, the lovebirds next door descend into a bodily nightmare that leaks from every orifice. Peaceful Wormwood Drive is the perfect tree-lined cul-de-sac where the comforting whine of lawnmowers masks the screaming.
