Paul Sharits: Late Work

Branden W. Joseph is the Frank Gallipoli Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and director of Art Humanities at Columbia University, where he specializes in postwar American and European art.

Towards the end of his career, Sharits turned to visceral icons of pathology and decay. The disintegration of the body and the decomposition of the filmic material became corollary metaphors in disturbing-and at times extraordinarily beautiful-assaults on the viewer's consciousness.
