The Cat and the Fiddle

Amid the winding streets of Bohemian Brussels live Victor Florescu (Ramon Novarro) and Shirley Sheridan (Jeanette MacDonald), in separate pensions. Both are composers, she the more successful with a hit tune, “The Night Was Made For Love,” he the more distracted, disaster-prone and destitute. The relationship is made complete by the rogue Alphonse Daudet (Frank Morgan), whose attentions Shirley enjoys almost as much as she enjoys coming to Victor's rescue.
Jeanette MacDonald at the beginning of her MGM career and Ramon Novarro near the end of his are a clever team in this Jerome Kern-Otto Harbach musical, which the New York Times called “A gay and tuneful picture...an intriguing and well-balanced melange of melody, fun and romance.”
