Years of Hunger (Hungerjahre)

“A story of cold war on all fronts,” Years Of Hunger is set in Germany in the fifties. “During these years, old values are reinstated and new commodities are worshipped. These are the years when, with the help of the word ‘freedom,' every bit of new and growing life is shouted down.” The story centers around three years in a young woman's life, during which time she struggles to understand her relationship to the world, locked in a mutually dependent, mutually destructive relationship with her mother. Years Of Hunger is Jutta Bruckner's third film.
