Notes
  • Chilean artist Juan Downey (1940-1993) studied architecture and printmaking in Santiago. He began working primarily in video while living in the United States in the mid-1960s, producing installations, single-channel videotapes, and works incorporating performance. Conceiving of the artist as a cross-cultural communicator, he often merges anthropology and autobiography through a combination of documentary and video diary.
  • This work is part of Downey's Video trans Americas series, made during his "cultural expeditions" through Latin America beginning in 1971.
  • A longer version (ca. 27 min.) was produced in 1979.
  • Pacific Film Archive collection; non-circulating. Access by appt. only. CBPF.
  • PFA 0550-121-8905. Restricted: Archival. Not for research or exhibition.
