Films in the collection of the Pacific Film Archive; volume I: Daiei Motion Picture Co., Ltd., Japan. Berkeley, California: University Art Museum, 1979,|cpp. 78 -79 520 8 In the Nasu Plains, there is a large rock called the Death Stone which was found 1000 years ago. This story is the legend of the stone. Tamamo and Tobimaru grow up together, loving one another. One day, when they are both 17 years old, Tamamo becomes lost in the Valley of Hell. There she hears the voice of Satan telling her that she is really a fox called Mamirume with nine tails, sent to the human world to destroy it. The day to begin her mission has come. 520 8 Tamamo meets Lord Tadanaga Fujiwara, the brother of the ruler of Japan, Lord Yorimichi. She seduces Tadanaga and manages to marry him. From then on, strange things begin to occur, including a terrible drought that lasts for many weeks. Yasunari, a diviner, figures out that all the strange events are due to Tamamo's evil power, but Tadanaga, madly in love with Tamamo, does not believe him. Tamamo demonstrates that she is not evil by causing it to rain. She claims Tadanaga should become the ruler of Japan instead of his brother, Yorimichi, who believes in the foolish Yasunari. 520 8 In the meantime, Tobimaru comes to look for her and discovers that she is cursed by the devil. He learns that the only way to help her is to kill the evil spirit in her with the Sacred Halberd. He goes in search of it. Tamamo decides to make a gigantic statue of herself by melting all the sacred statues in Japan. Tadanaga employs people to make her wish come true. When her statue is completed, Tobimaru comes with the Sacred Halberd. He throws it at the statue, killing the evil spirit, but at the same time Tamamo disappears. She is turned into a stone for failing in her mission.--Linda Saito. 546 In Japanese with English subtitles. 590 PFA 3500-01-4106. |aCONDITION NOTE: Described: 1976; Print in excellent condition; color good; subtitles mediocre 650 0 Animated films. 650 0 Friendship|vDrama|zJapan. 650 0 Love|vDrama|zJapan. 650 0 Miracles|vDrama|zJapan. 650 0 Supernatural|vDrama|zJapan. 655 7 Features.|2mim 655 7 Animation.|2mim 655 7 Fantasy.|2mim 690 Japanese films. 690 Yasunari (Mythological character) 690 Tobimaru (Fictitious character) 690 Tamamo (Fictitious character) 690 Mamirume (Fictitious character) 700 1 Senda, Takashi. 700 1 Nakajima, Gentarō. 700 1 Yagi, Shin'ichi. 700 1 Yoshioka, Michio. 700 1 Okamoto, Kidō. 700 1 Yanagida, Hisajirō. 700 1 Ikeda, Yoshio. 700 1 Kageyama, Isamu. 700 1 Ikeno, Sei. 700 1 Yoshida, Shōtarō,|d1912- 700 1 Yakurazawa, Hajime. 700 1 Nagasawa, Jun. 700 1 Nishitani, Katsuwa. 700 1 Uchiyama, Kumiko. 710 2 Daiē, Kabushiki Kaisha. 935 GLADN50871019 941 0 PFA 3500-01-4106. 35 mm. print 954 20120801|bMarcive Authority Bib 956 20140224|bPFA migration/merge load 957 OCLC xref loaded 20140928 994 92|bCUY
