Visionary film,|cp. 285 520 A filmed document of Jean Tinguely's self-destructive sculpture, performed at New York's Museum of Modern Art March 17, 1960. More than just a document, Breer addds his own touches to the film by beginning with a collage animation of the artist opening himself up, showing him to be made of wheels and gears much like his sculptures. Tinguely is shown setting the sculpture's mechanisms in motion. As the gears move and it sets itself on fire, the sound of the destruction is heard on the soundtrack. Breer also manipulates the picture and sound, employing superimposition, fast speeds, and intercutting the soundtrack with silence and a brief statement by Tinguely in French, with the voice of a translator relating his statement in English. At the end, the sculpture is destroyed. 541 0 PFA 1604-01-12512. D0373 590 PFA 1604-01-12512. |aCOPY-SPECIFC DESCRIPTION: 1 reel of 1 (350 ft.)
