In each port the captain retains a wife - in Gibraltar the devoted Maud, who is all domesticity and in Ceuta fiery Nita, who provides excitement. Alternating nights between the two cities leaves each wife satisfied and ignorant of the other's existence. Then, one day Nita wants to stay home and cook while Maud is ready for a night out on the town. Unable to accept his wives except in the niches he has given them, the Captain indirectly causes them to go off with men who will allow them a chance to fulfill their secret longings.
