Curating Worth Ryder, Past and Present with Farley Gwazda
Farley Gwazda, director of the Worth Ryder Art Gallery at the UC Berkeley Department of Art Practice, speaks about the fifty-seven-year history of the gallery and its current mission. Gwazda will discuss the many hats he wears as a practicing artist and the cofounder of a nonprofit “house gallery” in Berkeley, and his work with the estate of artist and UC Berkeley alumna Sonya Rapoport. He will also address the process of putting together Authority—The 2017 Open Call Student Exhibition, which opens on the evening of his talk, and discuss a selection of student artworks.
Farley Gwazda’s work has been shown at BAMPFA, Santa Clara University Art Gallery, playSPACE, and Flux Factory, among others. He was awarded the Eisner Prize in Studio Art from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also taught courses and given guest lectures at UC Berkeley, in addition to working as a freelance video editor, art consultant, studio manager, and art fabricator. He is also cofounder and codirector of the Martina }{ Johnston Gallery, an artist-run house gallery in the Bay Area.
