The Young Girls of Rochefort

BAMPFA’s Sunday Summer Cinema series continues through October with free films on our colossal outdoor screen! Bring your friends and family and something comfy to sit on (when you’re not on your feet dancing) and join us at 4:00 on Sunday afternoons August 12, September 9, and October 14 for a series of lively films in which dance plays a starring role.

On August 12, the entertaining and heartwarming documentary Step brings you the stories of three members of Baltimore’s Lethal Ladies step team as they find motivation and empowerment in stepping—a dance style that combines gymnastics, tap, and hip-hop.

Join us September 9 as West Side Story returns to the outdoor screen. Sharks and Jets sing, dance, and rumble their way through the streets and back alleys of late-fifties NYC in a dizzying rush of youth that knows no bounds.

Our series closes October 14 with The Young Girls of Rochefort, in which Catherine Deneuve and sister Françoise Dorléac play twins lifted out of their small-town reveries by a troupe of wandering entertainers led by Mr. American in Paris himself, Gene Kelly. "Not merely charming or amusing, but profoundly moving," says Sight and Sound.

BAMPFA’s outdoor screen is on Addison Street between Shattuck and Oxford (map). All films start at 4:00. And Babette will be on hand with a pop-up cafe to make sure you don’t go hungry or thirsty. Sunday Summer Cinema: Dancing in the Streets is copresented by BAMPFA and the Downtown Berkeley Association.
