No Place Like Home

no place like home: inflight stories designed to move brings twelve Bay Area artists together in an evening of dance, spoken word, and music inspired by experiences of migration and diaspora. Eleven pieces – including several premieres - celebrate the power of language, the gifts refugees bring, and the mobility of culture. Khmer dance phrases, Burmese kin terms, polylingual poetry, and a locally crafted boat freighted with story transport us through time and space from Manila to Manhattan. Our journey begins at 5pm, with a "flight time" of ninety minutes.

Produced by Penny Edwards in collaboration with lead artists Bonnie Wai-Lee Kwong, Maw Shein Win and guest artists Joi Barrios, Ann Schnake, Kenneth Wong, Judy Juanita, Natalia Duong, Hien Huynh, Ryan Boun, Rachel Qúy Collier, Carmen Serber, Kristina Dutton, Oliver Mok and Julie Zhu. Funded by the University of California MRPI Critical Refugee Studies Program and the Freshman Sophomore Seminar Program.
