Artist Stephanie Syjuco (b. 1974, Manila, Philippines) is joined in conversation by Curatorial Associate Matthew Villar Miranda, who organized her new Art Wall project. Syjuco's work critically examines how histories of photography and the construction of archives are implicated in racialized exclusionary narratives of nationhood and citizenship. For her Art Wall, she collaborated with students to mine the Bancroft Library's holdings, ranging from documents from the earliest days of Spanish and American imperialism in the Philippines to radical student-led publications of the archipelago's diaspora.
