"An interview with Robert Breer," New forms in film: Montreux 1974,|cp. 51 520 This line animation film begins with the title, 69, in a circle against a black background. Suddenly the title alternates single frames with single frames of a simply line-drawn geometric log which falls in empty space. Gradually the title disappears, and line-drawn geometric figures, including the log, appear and disappear in the frame. Black and white drawings are intercut with color segments, in which the geometric figures appear one frame at a time, filled in with different colors per frame. This creates a flicker effect. Softer figures appear--perhaps the outline of a horse? a face?-- along with Kandinskyesque geometric configurations. Sound elements appear briefly towards the middle of the film, and consist of garbled noises that in their distortions makes them difficult to identify. A train sound enters for 30 feet, then a sound that could be a distorted voice or water takes its place. The film ends with an increasingly red- tinted wash over the images. 541 0 PFA 1604-01-2690.
