500 Originally produced as a videotape in 1979.
500 La Mamelle no. 185.
500 Spoken introduction: "The second part of a series of
traveling exhibits thought of as 'act - reference -
modification' is produced for a video and exhibition
series at La Mamelle, Incorporated, San Francisco, from
November 20th through December 25th, 1979."
500 Voice-over: "There are nine participants, each assuming a
position in the numerical sequence 1 through 9. The work
has evolved from dialogues between the artists and will
continue to change as it moves from one Bay Area gallery
to the next. The work indicates the various
interpretations and modifications of 'reference' with
regard to the available information. As information and
ideas are placed, each person is able to modify and make
concrete their interpretations [...]"
500 According to a postcard mailed by Geoffrey Cook in 1979,
the first part of the "Act - Reference - Modification"
series was exhibited at Video Free America in San
Francisco, September 16th through October 4th, 1979. This
video appears to have been produced in conjunction with
the second in the series. See: http://
