520 8 This film documents scenester activities in the North
Beach district of San Francisco circa 1957-60, the Beat
era. Loreon Vigne, the filmmaker's wife, stands in front
of a hand-painted sign that reads: "No more co-existence!!
Pressniks go home (also fuzzniks). No beatniks, beardniks,
hipniks. This is a Tourist Trap. Beer .50"; interior of
Miss Smith's tea room; hipsters stand outside the Coffee
Gallery waiting for a Jazz Benefit at Jazz Cellar, October
8; interior of club (man speaks on platform in front of a
cubist mural); jug labeled "Death" gets passed around by
several people including Christopher Maclaine, who feigns
death; pixilated North Beach street scenes, mainly of
architecture; a baby is placed in a crate, which is
subsequently closed shut by a fiendish nun (Loreon Vigne);
man puts eggshells on his eyes; the footage ends with more
shots of architecture and construction.
