5000 ft.) (50 min.) : si., b&w (tinted) ; 35 mm. nitrate
print. |aCONDITION NOTE: Last inspected by Jere Guldin at
UCLA (date unknown; inspection report on file with S.
Gong); nitrate; tint; splices; Guldin reports: "There were
three title cards at the head of reel 1. The first was
copied and is reproduced [in his report on file]; the
other two titles were not copied. Originally the film was
listed as six reels in length with r5 missing; however,
upon viewing the film, it was discovered that this had
been an error, and the picture is actually complete. There
is an additional reel listed as 'trims,' which appears to
be a small amount of footage that was spliced from or torn
from the print at some time in the past. Since there are a
few reel changes where it appears that a minor amount of
footage might be missing, these 'trims' probably make up
some of that footage. Besides black-and-white, the tints
used are deep amber, light amber, and light pink. At the
head of reel 2 are two different intertitles in English
used as leader; however, the names used in the titles are
Japanese. Also, there is a similar intertitle used as
leader at the head of reel 3. The possibility exists that
these belong to the film, and that a prepared English
translation from the Japanese had been made at some point.
Reel 5 end title on safety stock. The print has many lines,
occasional scratches, and quite a number of splices. In
addition, there is minor water damage in reel 2. However,
most of this could be cleaned up fairly well, to make an
acceptable dupe negative. The print is not very shrunken.
As indicated earlier, however, there are some abrupt
transitions between reels, indicating some minor footage
is missing, some of which might be found in the 'trims'
can. Stored in five 1000 ft. cans. No edge codes on stock,
so no approximate date for the film can be given. However,
it looks like a product of the 1920s" CONDITION NOTE:
