520 Elise Grandee, a young woman at the turn-of-the-century,
feels stifled in a marriage to a stern older husband. They
live together in a house filled with objects, including a
precise, ornate clock--to Elise, the very symbol of her
husband, and an equal object of hatred because of the rule
the clock has over their lives. Soon after the clock
breaks down, Elise's husband also takes ill and dies. This
results in an auction of all of their belongings. The sale
of the clock reminds Elise of her husband's death. The
film is a flashback, with Elise's voiceover narration of
her memories.
