Notes
  • "The film was made in the Lake Kopiago area of Highland Papuan New Guinea in 1973. In that area, stone axes and flaked stone tools (aré) had been in regular use until as recently as the early 1930s. Thus, in the 1970s, many adult men were still completely familiar with their production and use, and at White's request, manufactured before the camera a bow and arrow using only traditional tools and methods. [...] The film is divided into three parts. The first documents the making of the bow, the second the resharpening of a stone axe broken while procuring wood for the bow, and the third the making of the arrow."--American Anthropologist, 81(2), June 1979.
