520 A long corridor becomes the site for an exploration of
optical printing techniques. The viewer first sees the
corridor in a long, slow tracking shot while the music--an
electronic portamento--rises in pitch and amplitude. At
the end of the corridor, the camera pans up stairs into
the darkness. At this point, the film begins its
permutations, and the sound track becomes a frenzied
improvistation over a drone and percussive track. A naked
woman appears at the end of the corridor, at times walking
towards the camera, at times the camera "walks" towards
her. It is as if the corridor is a symbol for the woman's
vagina, drawing the camera and the viewer towards her. The
filmmaker plays with the image of the corridor,
degenerating it through an optical printer: printing it in
negative, superimposing it on itself, and other methods.
The woman occasionally appears as if a ghost. The film
ends in a burst of light and frenzied music, as if the
corridor has exploded from its own kinetic energy.
