520 A frustrated young man living in suburbia longs to break
free of the confines of his conservative, sheltered
existence and become a hippie. He experiments with
marihuana and reads Siddhartha, but his parents foil his
attempts to adopt a new lifestyle with suggestions that he
exercise more and drink milk. After he is beat up by
straight-laced jocks and set up on a date with a vapid
cheerleader by his father, he quits his job at the
disgusting local butcher shop and hitchhikes to New York.
Instead of finding the free love and drugs he seeks, the
young man encounters junkies and panhandlers. He does find
true love, however, when he comes to the rescue of a young
woman resisting the advances of her lecherous landlord.
520 "Statement: We, the producers of THE EVIL WEED, having
conducted a study to determine what sort of pictures the
Public really wants, discovered that each and every
picture which lost money for the last ten years had one
thing in common: they were all talking pictures. There was
only one conclusion--the talking picture fad is over. We
immediately ran out and invested every dime in the first
feature-length silent comedy in 35 years, THE EVIL WEED. A
completely modern silent comedy, it tells the story of the
only kid in a super-straight suburban town who wants to be
a freak. After being beaten up by the local jocks, forced
to date cheerleaders by his father, recruited by the local
plutocrat to help stamp out Communist Inspired Pornography,
the kid quits his job at the butcher shop and takes off
for the Big City, where he anticipates finding orgies and
good dope. Instead, needless to say, he gets his can
kicked by muggers, junkies and evil blind men, before the
happy ending."--Audio Brandon Films Catalog, 1976-787,
