Notes
  • Running time: 18:48.
  • Video transfer created for BAM/PFA exhibition: Ant Farm 1968-1978 (January 21, 2004-April 25, 2004).
  • Research conducted by the Walker Art Center in conjunction with the exhibition, Hippie Modernism, in 2015 suggests that this is documentation of an event in 1970 or 1971. From the exhibition curator, Andrew Blauvelt: "As for the date, this is something we have been trying to figure out (also with Professor Felicity Scott) because the Whole Earth Catalogue Supplement they are working on in the film was published in January 1971. I had once thought it was erected in the desert in December 1970, but cannot confirm that yet. It probably was up in January 1971. My theory is that the 1969 date entered into the literature because the inflatable Ant Farm used was the 50 x 50 foot one, which I believe was created in 1969. It was recycled for this project. So maybe the date migrated from the inflatable to the event itself? I think we've erred on the side of c.1971."
  • Pacific Film Archive collection; non-circulating. Access by appt. only. CBPF.
