520 In this last film of his career, Kozint︠s︡ev captures the
austere grandeur of King Lear, the story of pride and
arrogance in which an old king prematurely divides up his
empire between his daughters in the vain hope that they
will care for him when he no longer wields the reigns of
authority. His trust in flattery over love proves his
downfall.
