The stories lie in the reactions of those around her, which run the gamut from the humane to the hysterical. Josette Day, the eponymous offspring in this film made during the Occupation, becomes pregnant by 'the hardware store's son,' who is forthwith sent to the front and didn’t intend to marry her anyway. The former softens the blow of the latter for the girl’s widower father, and the boy’s reported death at the front draws the two families together. But, like the Occupation and the war itself, it’s not over till it’s over. This warm comedy, both pastoral and earthy, pits the rustic wit of Raimu, as the peasant father, against the sarcastic superiority of Charpin, as 'the hardware store,' and offers Fernandel in a typical role of asexual bumpkin."-- Judy Bloch, Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive program note. 541 0 |3PFA 1620-01-16667. |aD0471 via D0466 |cdonation |d 04/16 /2015 |5CBPF 546 In French with English subtitles. 590 PFA 1620-01-16667.|aCONDITION NOTE: Inspected 2015/05/29 gc; soft 35 reduction; rough unusable leaders; repairs may be needed prior to projection; R1 tear 2/3 in; R2 tear at head; R3 tear 200 ft. from tail; warp (3); light to fair scratches 651 0 France|xHistory|yGerman occupation, 1940-1945|vDrama. 655 7 Feature films.|2lcgft 655 7 Comedy films.|2lcgft 690 French films. 700 1 Pagnol, Marcel,|d1895-1974,|efilm director,|efilm producer, |escreenwriter. 700 1 Willy,|d1915-1987,|edirector of photography. 700 1 Ginestet, Jeanette,|eeditor of moving image work. 700 1 Scotto, Vincent,|d1876-1952,|ecomposer (expression) 700 1 Brouquier, Marius,|eart director. 700 1 Raimu,|d1883-1946,|eactor. 700 1 Charpin, Fernand,|d1887-1944,|eactor. 700 0 Fernandel,|d1903-1971,|eactor. 700 0 Maupi,|d1881-1949,|eactor. 710 2 Films Marcel Pagnol,|eproduction company. 956 20160408 |bpfmcq|cCO 957 OCLC xref loaded 20160417 994 C0|bCUY
