The film traces the development of a group of activists on the Lower East side from isolated, alienated individuals to a politically empowered community. Filmed between the protests at the Pentagon and the demonstrations at the Democratic Convention in Chicago, it includes portraits of Abbie Hoffman, editor Paul Krassner, folksinger Phil Ochs and anarchist Tom "Osha" Neuman. Includes music by Country Joe and the Fish and Procol Harem. 538 Betacam SP. 562 This film was originally released in 1968 in an 80-minute version; Pacific Film Archive has preserved the 16mm 1973 director's cut (60 min.) with the cooperation of the filmmaker. 650 0 Vietnam War, 1961-1975|xProtest movements|zNew York (State)|zNew York. 650 0 Radicals|zNew York (State)|zNew York|vBiography. 650 0 Subculture|zNew York (State)|zNew York. 651 0 United States|xPolitics and government|y1963-1969. 655 7 Features.|2mim 655 7 Personal/independent works.|2mim 655 7 Documentaries and factual works.|2mim 700 1 Gessner, Peter,|d1939-|edirection,|eproduction,|ecamera/ lighting. 700 1 Hurwitz, Tom,|edirection. 700 1 Hoffman, Abbie. 700 1 Krassner, Paul. 700 1 Ochs, Phil. 700 1 Neuman, Tom. 710 2 Country Joe and the Fish 710 2 Procol Harum (Musical group) 941 0 PFA 0503-01-13598.
