520 A girl plays hopscotch on a sidewalk, filmed with a wide
angle lens. A woman walks out of an apartment and falls
down. The film cuts to the ocean where a man in a heavy
lead deepsea diver's suit dances with a woman close to the
surf. The hopscotch chalkline being drawn is printed
backwards so the lines appear to be erasing. The first
woman who had come out of the apartment runs, dressed in a
nightgown and calling "Edward," down a walkway leading to
the ocean. When she reaches the sand, she begins digging
in it. She finds the man in the diving suit laying in the
surf, and drags him away from the ocean. Taking the helmet
off his head, she finds rats inside. A man walks up to her
-- perhaps the diver?--dressed in a skirt. He walks away
from her, and she puts the diving suit in a laundry basket,
carting it down the street. Two women help her push the
cart up the hill to her apartment. She brings the diving
suit up and lays it out on the bed. The next cut shows the
man in the suit. The woman collapses in a faint, and the
man breaks bread and eats it.
