520 This film describes the role work sampling played in the
development of an efficient production layout for an
outboard motor manufacturer. Because profits were
significantly affected by the seasonal demand for outboard
motors, company managers decided that the company should
also start manufacturing chainsaws, a product that
complemented outboard motors. A work sampling enabled the
company to introduce this new product and maximize
efficiency. Steps in the work sampling process include
discovering facts, defining the problem, taking prepatory
steps, designing a study, making observations, summarizing
data, and reporting findings.
