Named for the pioneering San Francisco art and repertory film exhibitor, Mel Novikoff (1922-1987), the Award acknowledges an individual or institution whose work has increased the public's awareness and enjoyment of film. The Novikoff Award was presented to Paolo Cherchi Usai on Monday, April 26 at 8 pm at the Pacific Film Archive, followed by an onstage interview conducted by University of California, Berkeley film teacher Russell Merritt. Cherchi Usai was present to receive the award and to introduce the screening of archival treasures from the George Eastman House collection. For this special program Cherchi Usai and his colleague Edith Kramer, senior curator and director of the Pacific Film Archive, selected seven short films made between 1902 and 1928. Cherchi Usai introduces the films and discusses them, but the films themselves are not on this videotape. 538 VHS NTSC. 590 PFA 0500-01-11935. |aCONDITION NOTE: Last checked: 2007/09 /27 Excellent condition. 600 10 Cherchi Usai, Paolo. 650 0 Silent films|xPreservation. 655 7 Documentaries and factual works|2mim 655 7 Interviews.|2mim 655 7 Unedited footage.|2mim 700 1 Cherchi Usai, Paolo. 700 1 Merritt, Russell. 700 1 Kramer, Edith R. 710 2 San Francisco International Film Festival. 710 2 San Francisco Film Society. 935 GLADN17618962 941 0 PFA 0500-01-11935.
