520 A man sits in a woman statue's lap. An intertitle appears:
"Mother was the loveliest woman in the world, and mother
wanted everything to be lovely." Mother stands in a room,
dressed in a fur coat. There is a closeup of her face. A
man holding a ukelele stands outside the house, appearing
to court her. The next intertitle appears: "Mother always
said she could have her pick." Mother sits at a table with
a man. The next cut shows a man standing under her
apartment window. Mother looks out the window, a bored
expression on her face. Various men try to woo her by
bringing presents under her window. She ignores them. The
next intertitle: "And she picked father." Adults acting as
children play in a yard, suck their thumbs, play with
dolls and guns, and swing. They progressively age with
each successive sequence: next they are shown as flirting
young gentlemen and ladies, then they appear older. An
older mother puts on a hat and leaves the house. The
"children" play again. Many hats are thrown out a window
after one "boy" steals father's beard and tears it up. A
man's hat is stuck in a tree; the man uses a stick to get
it down, and the hat becomes a woman in the tree. At the
end of the film, father's portrait is upside down with
closed eyes. Mother appears dressed in father's suit,
holding a bridal bouquet.
