520 Over a soundtrack of sparse Koto music, the filmmaker
shows Mr. Hayashi at work in a garden. Close-ups and long
shots present the subject shoveling, and then walking in a
misty field, pausing to touch the plants. In a voiceover
monologue as sparse as the music, Mr. Hayashi describes
how he came to the United States from Japan. He had
difficulty finding work in the Berkeley, Calif. area.
Finally he found work for a few hours working in a garden.
With that last statement, the camera shows Mr. Hayashi in
a long shot in the field, then a close-up of leaves.
