Notes
  • Running time was formerly cited in Bib-base as 105 minutes. This seems improbable, as film is mounted on two 1200 ft. reels and one 800 ft., and print is acetate- based.
  • In audio tape of his appearance at the archive several months after the donation of this print, Lorentz indicates that film was intended as post-war propaganda for the Germans, and the U.S. State Dept. would not allow him to release the English language version in the U.S. Years later, when he was allowed to do so, he had to omit several short sequences, which apparently contained gruesome documentation of wartime atrocities. Bib-base had formerly stated that PFA's copy was the "rough cut of the English language version", but cataloger suspects that this was never verified. Rough inspection shows it to be a new print of what seems like the final version.
  • Pacific Film Archive collection; non-circulating. CBPF.
