500 This is the 1997 "better off" version re-edited by Robert
Nelson in an effort to improve upon the original. In 2003
during the preservation project, Nelson decided to scrap
this version.

508 Sound by Steve Reich.
520 A snippet of the Steve Reich sound collage begins over
opening credits (unlike in the original 1963 version);
then the film goes silent as R.G. Davis, founder of the
San Francisco Mime Troupe, has absurd interactions with
various geometric objects on a highly stylized
constructivist set. At 242 ft. the film goes to black for
about 100 ft., during which Steve Reich's sound collage,
which cuts up a boxing announcer's exaltations, is heard.
After the black, the images from the beginning of the film
repeat in a truncated form with audio from an improvised
mock interview with the director (Robert Nelson, playing
the role of a filmmaker from India). This final section
only lasts approximately 17 ft.--almost all of the
interview from the original version has been omitted and
the film ends abruptly.
