Set in the context of a small child's dream, the story follows a stuffed dog brought to life by a mother's tear, and a Devil who springs from the alcoholic vapors of a drunkard's delirium. The heady decadence of Bohemian nightlife in the Thirties is celebrated in curious and grotesque puppets fashioned from the refuse of the gutters of Paris. At midnight, the garbage swirls to life and shoe-chariots deliver eggshell, broomstraw, excelsior, and vegetable creatures to a Devil's Ball. The party includes an amnorous woolen monkey, a balloon saxophonist, waltzing chicken skeletons, and whirling tipsy wineglasses." -- David Craig. 590 PFA 1608-19-833. |aCONDITION NOTE: Last inspected: 23 Sep 1997; Very good condition; although print is somewhat contrasty; a few splices; double perf; 24 fps; head leader is shrunk and needs to be replaced CONDITION NOTE: Update: 13 Aug 1998; shrunk; Arthur McMillan says the whole print is shrinking, not just the leader 655 7 Animation.|2mim 655 7 Puppet animation.|2mim 690 Silent films. 690 French films. 700 1 Starewicz, Władysław,|d1882-1965. 700 1 Starewicz, Irène. 700 1 Starr, Nina. 710 2 Gelma-Film. 740 01 Fetiche. 740 01 Mascot. 740 01 Duffy Mascot. 740 01 Fetiche mascotte. 935 GLADN50871996 948 PFA 1608-19-833.
