500 Akiko Mikumo explains, "Inoue Yoshio's 16th film is light
entertainment similar in plot, pace and technique to
television detective shows. The characters are
stereotypical: the sour-faced detective, the smart-looking
hoodlum with the fastest gun, the mustached gang boss, his
sinister-looking mistress, the innocent daughter."

520 8 A silenced and smokeless gun, the Mord-gesell X38, has
been used to murder several gangsters. Police Detective
Kimura trails a possible suspect from Osaka to a Tōkyō
boat racetrack, but finds him shot by the same gun shortly
after meeting Kamoi, an old friend and a small-time
hoodlum. The next victim of the gun is killed in the
presence of Kamoi, who now becomes a target because the
murderer, Obata, suspects that Kamoi may have witnessed
both shootings. Shortly thereafter, Obata attempts to kill
him at the home of Nakazawa, a man whose company memo was
found in the pocket of the racetrack victim. Kamoi assumes
that Nakazawa is being stalked.
520 8 Ritsuko, Nakazawa's daughter, pleads with Kamoi to protect
her father, who after fifteen years has only just returned
to Japan because of an automobile accident that maimed his
foot. Together they consult Kimura, who has a hunch that
Nakazawa is in fact Sugimura, the narcotics smuggler he
arrested ten years ago but who escaped from a hospital
despite a bullet wound in his foot.
