Notes
  • Release date: 12/26/1962.
  • Akiko Mikumo remarks "Kawashima's 49th film, completed half a year before his sudden death in 1963, is a savage portrayal of life in a society undergoing rapid modernization. The film is a social commentary on the confusion of post-war Japan, its Westernization, consumerism, selfishness, and the resultant displacement of old social values and relationships. In their self- centered pursuit of money and sex, the characters of the film are so entirely devoid of compassion or morals that in the end the message of the film fails to come across as real; the characters are reduced to objects that decorate the apartment."
