Produced during the years 1940 to 1946, soundies were made to be seen on self-contained, coin-operated, 16mm rear projection machines called Panorams located in nightclubs, bars, restaurants and other public places. Eight soundies, featuring a variety of musical performances, were generally spliced together on a reel which ran in a continuous loop. The Panoram, a complicated and unique machine, later served as the basis for the RCA 16mm projector. Soundies were produced by various companies such as Minoco and RCM Productions, a company formed by James Roosevelt (the son of Franklin D. Roosevelt) songwriter Sam Coslow, and Herbert Mills, a pioneer in the development of arcade music machines"--http ://www.cinema.ucla.edu/collections/Profiles/soundies.html 590 PFA 1608-01-1696. |aCONDITION NOTE: Last checked: March 23, 2005 scratched; printed for reverse projection; on conventional projection, titles are in mirror image. 650 0 Popular music|zUnited States|y1941-1950. 655 7 Shorts.|2mim 655 7 Music shorts.|2mim 710 2 Soundies Distributing Corporation of America. 740 02 Struttin' to Sutton Place. 740 02 You're in love with everyone (but the one who's in love with you) 740 02 Speak to me, Darlin'. 740 02 Ooh-ooh Georgie. 740 02 I thought about you. 935 GLADN185452467 956 20140224|bPFA migration/merge load 957 OCLC xref loaded 20140309 994 01|bCUY
