In the Kidoeng Soenda, a Javanese romance of the Majapahit dynasty (1275- 1477 A.D.), there are described seven kinds of Baris performed during cremation ceremonies of the famous king, Hayam Wuruk. It is only within the last hundred years that, with plot and heroic characters, a dramatic form of Baris has emerged. 520 Kebyar is a Balinese dance form of fairly recent origin. In North Bali in the early part of this century, a style of musical interlude known as gamelan gong gradually evolved into Gong Kebyar, a music rich in dynamic variations. Working with this musical form, I Mario, from Tabanan in the South, developed a new dance composition, Kebyar Duduk.
