Film Cancellations, Reduced Gallery Hours This Week

As you may have heard, AFSCME and UPTE unions, which represent portions of the University of California workforce, will be going on strike for three days this week as part of ongoing contract negotiations between the university and union leadership. This is a UC systemwide strike affecting all campuses. As part of the UC system, BAMPFA has multiple staff members who are represented by these unions.

In anticipation of fewer staff on hand, BAMPFA will operate on a reduced schedule this week:

  • All film screenings are canceled from Wednesday, February 26 through Friday, February 28. If you have already purchased a film ticket to Gaucho Gaucho, According to Pereira, The Shanghai Drama, or Maliglutit, you will receive a separate email from our Visitor Experience staff with information regarding the refund process. If you purchased a ticket in person, contact our admissions desk at bampfa@berkeley.edu / (510) 642-1412 or stop by our admissions desk to obtain a refund. Please note that canceled films will not be rescheduled.

  • BAMPFA will close early at 5 PM on Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27. We will resume regular gallery hours on Friday, February 28.

  • All other BAMPFA programs this week will proceed as planned, including an exhibition tour of To Exalt the Ephemeral and drop-in artmaking in the Art Lab, as well as school field trips, tours, and other private events. Our art galleries will remain open from 11 AM to 5 PM on Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27, and we encourage you to drop by for a look at the vibrant slate of art exhibitions that we have on view.

As a unit of UC Berkeley, BAMPFA does not take public positions on labor disputes between the University of California and its unionized staff, nor does the museum have any role in the UC systemwide contract negotiations. We anticipate a return to regularly scheduled programming from Saturday, March 1 onward.

We hope to see you back at BAMPFA soon!
