Color draws attention to itself-it is disturbing and irritating, exquisite and pleasurable-in these programs of contemporary and historical experimental films, presented on Tuesdays in November. Some of the filmmakers orchestrate colors, others create them through a range of effects; some are stylists, some scientists. They draw with the spectrum of light or paint directly on film, explore the physical act of perceiving color and highlight the properties of varying film stocks. They find unexpected colors in nature, and use colors nature never imagined. They create a poetics of color, films difficult to describe yet full of beauty and mystery.
