“Tarkovsky is for me the greatest, the one who invented a new language, true to the nature of film, as it captures life as a reflection, life as a dream.”-Ingmar Bergman
Andrei Tarkovsky (1932–1986) is widely considered to be the greatest postwar Soviet filmmaker, and one of the supreme stylists of world cinema. We are pleased to present new prints of two major works-Andrei Rublev and The Mirror-in an extended run, as well as PFA's own print of Ivan's Childhood. We hope to continue our Tarkovsky tribute with Solaris in March.
