Introduced by Chris BerryOur Monday night series of Chinese cinema, begun in January, continues through April 16. Each program will be introduced by Chinese film scholar Chris Berry, Associate Professor in the UC Berkeley Film Studies Program, who has also written our program notes.Classics of the Chinese Cinemas provides a rare opportunity in the U.S. to see some of the greatest films from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the diaspora on the big screen. The People's Republic's "Open Door" policy of the last two decades has made the reconnection of the Chinese cinemas possible. Placed together, classics like Horse Thief, The Killer, and A City of Sadness appear as complementary achievements of one rich and varied cinematic culture.Chris BerryProf. Berry will introduce the films at 6 p.m.; the films will start approximately 6:15.
