Over the next two months we will present five new works of Committed Cinema-films and videos arising out of political conviction and aesthetic innovation, most created on a miniscule budget. These works turn an unwavering gaze on topics ranging from a corporate giant to a colossal military creation, from the Cold War suburbs to the Paris Commune. All embrace radical style-film essay and collage, fluid long takes and fiction/documentary hybrids - varying approaches to connecting historical and contemporary social realities. They provide us with a glimpse of a truly independent cinema, one which is thought-provoking and intelligent, undaunted in its inquiry, and counterbalancing in its point of view. If cinema creates a desire for another reality, these films foster an aspiration for a more just and humanitarian one.
