New Prints from MGM/UA In January and February we celebrate a simple pleasure-the joy of good films shown in repertory. Alone or in double bills, repertory lets us discover or rediscover cult films and classics, small gems and big deals, the stuff that screens are made of. It's a way of retrieving the past for the present, the present for the future. But repertory programming is an endangered species unless new prints are made of old films. We are especially grateful to John Kirk, Technical Services Manager, Worldwide Distribution Services at MGM/UA, who has overseen the making of new prints from the MGM/UA Film Library. His work to revive these and many other titles is an invaluable asset and encouragement to the ongoing appreciation of cinema.Thursday January 18, 2001
