PFA welcomes, for his second visit here, the English composer and pianist Neil Brand, considered one of the finest exponents of improvised silent film accompaniment in the world. Brand comes to Berkeley to present an entertaining music and film lecture on Saturday, September 27, and while he's here, we've planned two surrounding evenings of rare silent films for him to accompany. Brand performs regularly at London's National Film Theatre and at film festivals throughout the world, most famously at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival. He has written scores for television dramas and documentaries, toured with a swing band for the British Film Institute's video release of Hitchock's The Ring, and written award-winning musicals.
