Ewald-Andre Dupont made some 30 films in Germany, the most well-known being Variety (1925), before moving to Great Britain in 1927. Dupont brought to his British productions the sense of form and all the lush, intricate artistry characteristic of the German silent. By 1929, Dupont had reached a pinnacle of silent film technique. While Moulin Rouge (see Tuesday, March 31) and tonight's Piccadilly are rare enough, we await the even rarer Love Storm with great anticipation, eager to see what else this much neglected master put his hand to before coming to Hollywood, where his work is said to have declined considerably.
