Their Own World: Chinese Paintings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties

October 10–December 23, 2007

A selection of important Chinese paintings from private collections on long-term loan to the Berkeley Art Museum is featured in Gallery C during November and December. Landscape paintings of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1910) dynasties provide important cornerstones for the understanding of painting during the turbulent period of mid-seventeenth-century China. Featured artists include major figures whose lives and works span the transition between the Ming and the Qing. All traditional formats are represented in the selection, including handscrolls, hanging scrolls, albums, and fan paintings.
