On April 7 and 8 we are delighted to present internationally acclaimed British composer and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Johnston performing original compositions for two silent films, Dovzhenko's Earth and Walsh's Regeneration. Johnston, who has composed fifty scores for the theater, since the early eighties also has created silent film scores for solo and ensemble performance, commissioned by film festivals and cinematheques around the world. Recently he has concentrated on scoring feature films, including four collaborations with Michael Winterbottom: Jude, Welcome to Sarajevo, I Want You, and New Borrowed Blue; and the current British TV series Touching Evil 3. Johnston's memorable last appearance at PFA was the 1991 performance of Borzage's Lucky Star, a composition for piano, drums, and keyboard. The Unsilent Film is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The series continues through the summer.
