Adrian Johnston in Performance
On two very special evenings, internationally acclaimed British composer and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Johnston will perform original compositions for classic silent films, Dovzhenko's Earth and Borzage's Lucky Star. Originally scheduled to perform last spring, Mr. Johnston had to cancel that engagement due to ill health. We are delighted that he was able to reschedule. Johnston will perform the new score for PFA's print of Earth that he has composed for our NEA-sponsored series The Unsilent Film, and reprise the extraordinary composition for Lucky Star he so memorably presented here in 1991.
Adrian Johnston has composed fifty scores for the theater, and since the early eighties has created silent film scores for solo and ensemble performance, commissioned by film festivals and cinematheques around the world. Recently he has concentrated on scoring feature films, among them last year's The House of Mirth; several collaborations with Michael Winterbottom including Jude and Welcome to Sarajevo; and the British TV series Touching Evil 3.
Music devised and performed by Adrian Johnston, produced by Harald Tobermann for ETH Screen Music. Music for Lucky Star originally commissioned by Pordenone Silent Film Festival.
